Don’t Get Burned By Rising Fuel Costs

Cooling and heating systems represent half of the energy used in a typical home.  By changing or upgrading your ac or furnace filters on a regular basis, keeps your electric bill down and your ac and furnace unit running at maximum efficiency.  Following a regular maintenance schedule can reduce your heating and cooling costs by 5-10% and prolong the life of your equipment.

Cooling And Heating Systems Represent Half Of The Energy Used In A Typical Home.

Here Are Some Ways You Can Cut Those Energy Costs Without Sacrificing Comfort.

1.    Regularly maintain your air conditioning system by a licensed professional HVAC company.
2.    Change your ac filters and furnace filters every 30 days.
3.    Set your thermostat at 78 degrees when at home. Bump it up a few degrees if you are going to be gone for several hours.
4.    Install a programmable thermostat.
5.    When buying a central air conditioning system, pick the right size for your home. One that is too small or too big will not work efficiently.
6.    Use a microwave, toaster over or crockpot instead of the oven.
7.    Keep curtains and blinds closed during the day.
8.    Use CFL bulbs instead of incandescent bulbs. CFL’s generate less heat and use less energy.
9.    Run energy-efficient ceiling fans when you are home.
10. Plant shade trees around your property.

Summer is Just Around the Corner, How Will You Keep Your Cool?

Now that the summer months are approaching, you will be using your air conditioner or furnace daily, so make sure you have enough ac or furnace filters on hand. By changing or upgrading your ac or furnace filters monthly, you can ensure your air conditioner or furnace unit will perform at its best. If you do not change your ac or furnace filters regularly, dirt, dust and debris will build up on your coil and then your unit will have to work harder to maintain the proper temperature. It can also freeze up, leak water and possibly damage your air conditioning or furnace unit. Dirt and dust are the number one causes of air conditioning and furnace system failures.

A/C Filters 4 Less Raises Awareness On Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

A/C Filters 4 Less recommends yearly cleaning and maintenance on all furnace units.
Carbon Monoxide is a natural product of incomplete combustion, which is odorless and colorless. When breathed in, it can cause loss of consciousness and eventually brain damage or death. A clean, efficiently burning gas furnace produces very small amounts of carbon monoxide, while a dirty, inefficiently burning furnace can produce deadly amounts.

A/C Filters 4 Less recognizes the importance of clean a/c filters and furnace filters, free of dirt and debris. By changing filters regularly, the air conditioning unit will run efficiently reducing the chances of carbon monoxide poisoning. Newer gas furnaces are equipped with many features that shut the furnace off when a problem is detected. Older furnaces do not have such a device, which makes proper maintenance even more important. “Hundreds of americans die every year from carbon monoxide poisoning. Most people do not realize the severity of neglecting their filtering system.”, notes Mark Platt, owner.

Carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms include; headache, fatigue, shortness of breath, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, disorientation and loss of consciousness. If experiencing any symptoms, open doors and windows, turn off combustion appliances and leave the house. To prevent any such occurrence, follow A/C Filters 4 Less guidelines and install CO detectors throughout the home.

A/C Filters 4 Less Prepares For Expansion Of Higher Efficiency Filters

May 4, 2011 - A/C Filters 4 Less prepares for expansion of higher efficiency residential, commercial and industrial brand filters.

The market trends show and increase in high efficiency filters, according to www.acfilters4less.com. High efficiency a/c filters and furnace filters are becoming more and more popular due to their low energy consumption and their ability to reduce allergens. A/C Filters 4 Less and their manufacturers are making the necessary adjustments to capitalize on this trend.

In recent years, consumers have spent millions of dollars on air-cleaning and air-purifying filters to reduce dust levels indoors. By simply upgrading a/c filters and furnace filters to higher efficiency filters, the indoor air quality can be greatly increased. High efficiency filters are designed to capture small particles and allergens such as dust, pollen, mold, pet dander and smoke. These are the particles that make up 99% of indoor air that can aggravate allergies and asthma. “It is important to change air filters regularly to ensure clean air quality and proper maintenance.”, states Mark Platt, owner.

Consumers are becoming more health conscious and aware of indoor air pollution. With the increase in asthma and other allergy related concerns, high efficiency filters are more popular than ever. A/C Filters 4 Less continues to stay ahead of industry trends with the help of their superior manufacturers.

A/C Filters 4 Less Spreads Awareness About Earth Day By Cutting Down Air Pollution

A/C Filters 4 Less is dedicated to the environment by cutting down on air pollution and energy consumption. By changing air filters and furnace filters, the a/c compressor works less and results in less power usage. As much as half the energy indoors goes to heating and cooling. Changing the air filters on a regular basis is the the least expensive maintenance task one can perform to maintain the air conditioning unit.

Neglecting necessary maintenance ensures a steady decline in air conditioning performance while energy use steadily increases. Clogged, dirty filters block normal air flow and reduce a systems efficiency significantly.  Keeping a/c filter and furnace filters clean can lower air conditioning consumption by 5-15%. “We believe that by offering free shipping we can help our customers save on energy usage and air pollution.  The environment needs our help and A/C Filters 4 Less wants to do their part to save the Earth.”, states Mark Platt, owner.

Earth Day becomes more important with each year as we approach global warming. If every business and consumer participates, pollution can be greatly decreased. A/C Filters 4 Less is one of the many businesses working together to spread awareness about the desperate need to save our planet.

A/C Filters 4 Less attends the 2nd annual “Horses For Heroes” Golf Tournament benefiting the Bit By Bit Therapeutic Riding Center.

With community sponsors like A/C Filters 4 Less, this program continues to grow and help so many in need.

The annual “Horses For Heroes” Golf Tournament Fundraiser was held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Inverrary Golf & Country Club, while 100% of the proceeds went to support the veterans in the Heroes Program. A/C Filters 4 Less was one of the many supporters donating a case of A/C Filters. “The event was a great success and we were happy to be a part of such a great program.”, states Mark Platt, owner.

Your Air Conditioner Filter Does More Than One Job

Many people think that an AC or Furnace filter is used only to reduce the amount of dust in their home and think of them only in that way. Although this is a very important job, it is not the only job that an air conditioner filter performs. It has another very important function that many are not aware of. This other function is possibly more important than how much dust a filter removes from your living space. An AC filter reduces the amount of dust that collects on the evaporator coil of your air conditioning system. The evaporator is one of the four main components of an air conditioning system and is located inside of the indoor fan section. Air conditioner filters are located before the evaporator and remove dust before it reaches the evaporator.Everyone knows that any dust that passes through the filter returns to the living space and can be a problem for allergy sufferers and anyone else who is sensitive to dust and airborne pollutants. What many people don't know is that air conditioner filters serve another important purpose. They prevent the evaporator coil from becoming plugged with dust, which will restrict the air flow and reduces the efficiency of the air conditioner. The evaporator is constructed similar to a car radiator and like your car radiator; it requires a good supply of air to work properly. As time passes dust collects between the fins of the evaporator coil and can even form a layer on the surface of the evaporator fins. This happens over a period of time and can take months and even years to cause obvious problems. If your air conditioner develops a problem with ice build up and it was never a problem in the past, there are two probable causes. The evaporator coil is becoming dirty and restricting airflow, or you are not changing your air conditioner filter as often as necessary. As air flows through the evaporator becomes more and more restricted, equipment efficiency begins to decline. If this condition becomes severe it can cause equipment breakdown and lead to costly repairs. An efficient AC or Furnace filter not only cleans the air you breath it also helps to maintain your air conditioner in good working condition. The air conditioner performs at peak efficiency reduces service calls.

5 Ways to Go Green Without Spending All Your Green

No one can single-handedly save the environment, but if everyone made a few changes, the results would be staggering. Going green means turning lights out when leaving a room, turning computers off when they are not in use, using Energy Star-related fixtures and compact fluorescent bulbs, using cloth grocery bags, carpooling, and telecommuting when feasible. Recycling all newspapers printed in the U.S. would save almost 300 million mature trees each year; enough wood and paper is disposed of yearly to heat one billion homes. Changing or upgrading your AC and furnace filters on a regular basis, saves money on your electric bill.

Does An Electrostatic Filter Make Your AC or Furnace Work Harder?

Electrostatic filters will remove smaller particles of dust and pollen than most disposable filters, but they need to be washed and air dried on a monthly basis. They tend to restrict the air flow which slows the air circulation in your home.  This will cause your AC or furnace to run longer to reach its desired temperature.  This is not a filter that we would recommend.  It is always best to have the air in your home circulating and filtering the air so you get the cleanest, dust free air for you and your family.  With a good disposable filter it will ensure good air circulation so your HVAC system does not have to work so hard to reach its desired
temperature. This is one of the best ways to save you money on your electric bill.

Can I Wash or Vacuum My AC or Furnace Filter?

Many people try to wash or vacuum their furnace filters to extend the life. Washing your furnace filter is generally a bad idea. Many filtering materials do not hold up well when wet. Washing your furnace filter significantly increases the risk for mold or microbiological growth on the filter itself (which will release those mold spores into the air that is circulating throughout your home).  Also, you can never get the filter clean enough, which puts a strain on your unit and restricts your air flow so your furnace has to run a lot longer to reach the desired temperature.

Vacuuming your furnace filter is a healthier alternative to washing your furnace filter, but is still not recommended. Although you may slightly prolong the life of your furnace filter, you will probably make a mess doing it, and a vacuumed filter will release a lot of
dust and particles into the ductwork when you first re-install it. Additionally, most furnace filters are made from a delicate filtering material and are prone to ripping or tearing, which will render the filter useless.

What If I Forget To Change My AC or Furnace Filter or Don't Change It At All?

There is more than one problem that can arise from not regularly changing your a/c filter. These problems can be broken down into three major categories: Mechanical, Energy Consumption and Health.

Energy Consumption: The harder your AC or Furnace system works, the more energy it will consume. The more energy it consumes, the higher your electric bills. Changing your filters on a regular basis can save you hundreds, possibly thousands of dollars each year.

Mechanical: A dirty air filter of any type may result in extensive damage to the fan blower motor or compressor in your AC or furnace. Dirt and grime accumulate on crucial moving parts causing them to fail much quicker than expected. This can be very costly and sometimes leads to a total system replacement. At the very least, your system life expectancy will be reduced significantly.

Health: Most importantly, if you do not change your air filters on a regular basis, it can cause potential health problems for your family. Consider these facts from the EPA:
* Each person inhales over 3,500 gallons of air each day. Children inhale more particles for their size than adolescents or adults
* Polluted air causes 94% of all respiratory problems
* An estimated 10-15% of the entire population may be allergic to cat or dog dander
* More than 31 million Americans have been diagnosed with asthma, about 1/3 are children under 18
* About 40,000 dust mites, a common household allergen, can live in one ounce of dust
* A person sheds up to 700,000 skin flakes per day
* Your air conditioner filter is the primary defense to reduce and hold these health issues at bay. A quality home air filter changed on a regular basis is a small investment for your family's health.

A/C Filters 4 Less Aims To Spread Awareness About Indoor Air Pollution

A/C Filters 4 Less Aims To Spread Awareness About Indoor Air Pollution

A/C Filters 4 Less Aims To Spread Awareness About Indoor Air Pollution

(Online PR News) March 15, 2011 - A/C Filters 4 Less is on a mission to spread awareness to consumers about indoor air pollution.

According to Aerias Air Quality Sciences, indoor pollutant levels can be two to five times higher and occasionally 100 times more polluted than outside. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ranked indoor air pollution as the one of top five environmental threats to public health and one of the largest remaining health risks in the United States. The American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology stated that 50% of all illnesses are either caused or irritated by poor indoor air quality.  In the U.S, an estimated 20.3 million American have asthma, including 6.3 million children. Deaths from asthma have reached more than 180,000 annually and the number of people with asthma has increased by more than 60% since 1980. These numbers are alarmingly high and rising.

“The average household and office can seriously benefit their health by maintaining clean a/c or furnace filters or upgrading to a better quality filter. This is especially important to any person with allergies or a lowered immune system. We strive to help each of our customers find the best a/c filter or furnace filter for their home or office.”, noted Mark Platt, owner of A/C Filters 4 Less.

With an extremely long winter this year, most of the U.S. has spent the last 5-6 months only indoors keeping warm. Home and office buildings are now built so air tight that any indoor air pollutants are trapped inside, not to mention the chemicals used in many building products these days. Results have shown that one in five schools and 60% of hospitality facilities in the U.S has unsatisfactory indoor air quality. “By changing a/c filters and furnace filters on a regular basis and/or upgrading to a better quality filter, these numbers can change and our families can be healthier.”, states Platt.

What is the Best Type of A/C Filter Or Furnace Filter Without Restricting Your Air Flow?

We recommend our Flanders Precisionaire EZ Flow Fiberglass Disposable Flat Panel filters. They can be used in both heating and air conditioning systems and come in a wide variety of sizes. We can also custom make the EZ Flow filters to your exact size, if one of the many standard sizes won't work for you. If you are looking for a filter with minimal air flow restriction, then this is the right filter for you. They are available in 1" and 2" sizes. The EZ Flow disposable filters, are one of the most popular filters in today's market, designed for protection of AC and furnace HVAC units in residential and light commercial applications.

The EZ Flow Flat Panel filter is a standard grade AC or furnace filter of the same type that has been protecting furnaces and central air conditioners around the world for over 50 years. The filtering medium is continuous filament spun glass. The frame is made with one continuous piece of chipboard to guard against corner separation and is strengthened by a metal retainer wall on the downstream side. For peak equipment protection and energy efficiency, these filters should be changed on a monthly basis in periods of high use.

What is the Difference in Types of A/C & Furnace Filters?

The first thing you need to know is the condition of your AC unit or Furnace. If your coil is already dirty, you should buy a low MERV rating filter to give you more air flow, such as our EZ Flow filters.  If your AC or Furnace is less than 3-4 years old, or you have been changing your filters on a regular basis, then you can buy a better quality filter such as a MERV 8 pleated filter or our permanent frame and media filter pads. If you use a washable filter, in most cases, it never gets dirty because the dirt and debris can pass right through the filter, which causes your coil to get dirty or even clogged. When you wash this filter and if you put it back in your unit wet, it will produce moisture which can cause other problems. We do not recommend this type of filter.

What If My AC or Furnace Stops Working?

If you don't know the last time you changed your AC or Furnace filter, then there is a good chance your unit will be frozen. The best thing to do, in this situation, is to turn your thermostat to fan, in the on position - not auto, and make sure the cool or heat is
set in the off position.  Leave your AC or Furnace off for about 2-1/2 - 3 Hours. Make sure you put some towels under your unit to absorb the excess water.  Then replace your AC or Furnace filter and turn your unit back on to your desired temperature. If your unit continues to leak, or not cool or heat, we recommend you call a licensed professional.

Benefits of high MERV A/C & Furnace Filters

It is important for consumers to remember that not all furnace filters are designed equal. Most will opt for the cheapest filter available, but this is not always the smartest choice. This may save you money now, but over a period of time may cost much more money in repairs. A/C filters and furnace filters with a high MERV rating can save thousands of dollars in the long run. There are numerous benefits to using high MERV filters.

1- Better indoor air quality - Indoor air pollution is dangerous to overall health. Dust, dirt, harmful micro-organisms, bacteria, mold, allergens, dust mites, pollen, dander, etc. all can cause damage to your health. In extreme weather conditions, people stay indoors as much as possible. With high MERV filters you can be sure the air quality in your home is safe to breath.

2 - Lower maintenance costs -A great benefit of high MERV filters is they keep your coil clean which keeps your monthly heating or air conditioning bills lower.

3 - HVAC repair costs -Because high MERV filters keeps your coil clean, repair costs generally are much lower. The system does not have to work as hard when the filters are clean. The higher rated filters keep smaller particles out of your system and ensure fewer breakdowns. Nobody wants a broken HVAC system in extreme weather conditions.

Overall high MERV rated A/C & furnace filters are the smarter choice to keep your home or office healthy and safe.

How do I find my A/C Filters or Furnace Filter dimensions?

Every brand of filter has a different exact size.  Most a/c filters and furnace filters have two sizes: Standard and Actual.  If your a/c filter or furnace filter actually measures 15-½ x 19-½ x ¾ then the standard size would be 16x20x1.

When determining the size of your a/c filter or furnace filter, it is best to measure your existing filter.

You do not want your a/c filter or furnace filter to fit too tight, having to force it into place could damage the filter.  If the filter is too small, it can get sucked up into the return and will not filter the air properly.

Changing Your A/C Filters And Furnace Filters On A Regular Basis

When dirty A/C filters and Furnace Filters are left in a system they begin to restrict airflow, restricted air flow means your system is going to work harder to push the same amount of air. This can cause damage to your system and also raise your utility bills.

The harder your HVAC unit has to work, the more energy it eats away. Filters should really be changed out monthly, especially during the summer and winter months when the HVAC unit has a heavy workload.

Can I wash or vacuum my furnace filter?

Although you may slightly prolong the life of your furnace filter, you will probably make a mess doing it, and a vacuumed filter will release a lot of dust and particulates into the ductwork when you first re-install it. Additionally, most furnace filters are made from a delicate filtering material and are prone to ripping or tearing, which will render the filter useless.

A/C Filters 4 Less recommends our permanent frame and disposable media filter pads.  The Three Channel Extended Aluminum Design Keeps the Media Filter Pads Firmly In Place.  You Only Have to Buy The Frame Once and Replace The Media Filter Pads Every 6-8 Weeks Or As Needed.  The Frame and Media Filter Pads Are Custom Made To Your Exact Size.  The Media Filter Pads Are The Best For Eliminating Airborne Particles and is Also One of The BEST FILTERS FOR PEOPLE WITH ALLERGIES. The Frame Has a Lifetime Warranty. Available in 1” and 2” Sizes.

Can Not Changing Your A/C Or Furnace Filter Cause Damage?

Changing the filter in your home is one of the least expensive things you can do to maintain your HVAC system. After months of furnace filter neglect serious things can possibly happen. Your furnace may simply break down and you will need to find replacement parts. If your heat exchanger becomes warped or cracked from the heat build up within your furnace, noxious carbon monoxide fumes may leak into your home, not only making you sick but also potentially killing you and your entire family. Can you imagine all of this, simply because you could not be bothered to maintain your furnace filter?

Faulty furnaces have also been known to cause fires, all because the furnace filter wasn't clean, and air couldn't circulate properly through the furnace and throughout your home. Clean up after a fire is incredibly expensive, and there is no telling what damage you may in the process.  You can save yourself a lot of stress, a lot of health problems and a whole lot of financial burden simply by keeping your furnace filters clean, or replacing them often.

What Is The Difference Between A/C Filters And Furnace Filters?

A furnace is an indoor unit used in most cases were there is a lot of cold weather.  An Air Handler Unit is an indoor unit used in hotter climates typically in southern states.
There is no difference between A/C Filters and Furnace Filters. All filters are designed to clean dirt dust and debris from the air that passes through your HVAC system. Keeping such particles out of the furnace improves indoor air quality along with extending the life of your furnace or air handler unit. Higher quality filters reduce more particles and help reduce allergens in the air.

With the right filter you can improve your health, air quality and life of your HVAC system. It is very important to remember to change your filters regularly (every 4-6 weeks or as needed).

Tips For Improving Your Indoor Air Quality From A/C Filters 4 Less

As much as half of the energy used in your home goes to heating and cooling. So making smart decisions about your home's heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) system can have a big effect on your utility bills — and your comfort. Take these steps to increase the efficiency of your heating and cooling system.

Check your furnace filter every month, especially during heavy use months (winter and summer). If the filter looks dirty after a month, change it. At a minimum, change the filter every 2 months. A dirty filter will slow down air flow and make the system work harder to keep you warm or cool — wasting energy. A clean filter will also prevent dust and dirt from building up in the system — leading to expensive maintenance and/or early system failure.

Most families are on a budget, so following these tips will help keep your bills down and maintenance to a minimum.

Winter Weather Means Your Furnace Is On Overdrive, Keep Your Filters Clean

When cold weather hits, doors and windows are closed which means less fresh air circulating through your home or office. Stale air and dirty furnace filters can carry illnesses, dust, dander, and other pollutants. The best way to ensure your home is free of all of these hazards is to check your filters monthly and change as needed (every 4-6 weeks). Indoor Air Quality, IAQ is a very important factor to not only a household, but to businesses as well. Clean air in the office means less sick days and happy, diligent employees at work.

Keep your furnace and your family healthy and happy by changing your filters regularly!

How Is Your Indoor Air Quality Affected By Your A/C Filter Or Furnace Filter?

How can your air filter possibly be this terrible? Simple. If you have neglected to change it in past 60 to 90 days, it is costing you money and could be damaging your system and your health. A dirty, clogged air filter will devour money faster than rising gas prices. Every time your air conditioner or heater kicks on, your dirty filter is causing your air handler to burn more energy. A simple thing such as not changing your filter on a regular schedule can cost you hundreds to thousands of dollars a year!

Yes, it can be a hassle to find the right filter size, drive down to the hardware store, purchase a new filter for 8-15 dollars, and drive back home to install it. The trouble is that you forget and as you procrastinate your home comfort system just keeps on sucking dirt and devouring your money. Changing your filter is an irritating household chore that you must consistently do, but this 5 minute chore has a much greater affect on the condition of your family’s finances than any other chore on your to-do list.

Money aside, a dirty air filter is extremely serious. So serious that the United States Environmental Protection Agency released information warning that indoor air pollution may be 2 to 5 times higher, and occasionally more than 100 times higher, than outdoor levels. As a result, the EPA has ranked poor indoor air quality as one of the top five risks to public health. Considering that many of us spend 90% of our time indoors, that is alarming news. Apart from the inherent health risks of not changing your air filter/furnace filter, there is also a monetary risk at hand.

It is almost impossible to determine the exact cost of a dirty air filter because every home design and every comfort system is unique. However, you can roughly estimate the dollar value cost of dirty filters by performing a simple visual inspection of your filter and compare it to you monthly cooling bills.
In today's fast paced world it's easy to overlook changing your filters. Operating your equipment with plugged filters can raise your utility bills and even make your family sick.
